For over seven decades, the Jeep name has epitomized durability, toughness and versatility. During those years, the go-everywhere Jeep stable of vehicles has evolved with upgrades in performance, comfort, style and safety.

Each year Jeep designers satisfy their own imaginative itches and consumer requests for unique variations. These Limited Edition Jeeps have included versions that tweak the style, create a separate identity and enhance the capability of the mainstream models.

In addition to Jeep’s newly announced line of 75th Anniversary Special-edition Jeeps, other  2016 special editions include the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition and the Jeep Wrangler Black Bear.

2016 75th Anniversary Special-edition

On Jan. 6, Jeep announced their plans for the 75th Anniversary Special-edition Jeeps and that each of these special-edition stylings will be available on all Jeep models.

The Special-edition model exterior will be available in a range of Jeep-exclusive green hues, in addition to other colors. Other exterior touches will include bronze wheels and bronze and orange accents throughout the body. The interior will include exclusive seats which are upholstered with one-of-a-kind mesh ombre cloth, or a 75th Anniversary logo. Jeep is expecting that each Special-edition model will be available in Jeep dealer showrooms in the first quarter of 2016.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

The award-winning SRT incorporates a robust range of unique performance and technology features. With a starting MSRP of $65,495, the 2016 SRT version has some notable modifications what Autobytel designated as “One of 2015’s Best American-Made SUVs”.

To create the SRT, the Street and Racing designers at Jeep were given the opportunity to apply their unique touches to an already well-equipped Grand Cherokee. To maximize performance and power, the SRT is equipped with a 6.4-liter HEMI engine that generates 475-horsepower joined with an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. The Grand Cherokee’s powertrain is paired with an exclusive Quadri-Trac Active-on-Demand 4-wheel drive system. Available with the Trailer Tow Group IV Package, this setup is capable of towing 7,200 lbs.

The SRT is also about ultra-premium luxury. Loaded with almost every available feature, the inside, the SRT is presented in high-quality leather with premium ultra-suede seating surfaces. On cold mornings, the heated steering wheel and heated exterior mirrors nicely complement the heated front seats when you head out. The black grille and roof rails are just a pair of the SRT exterior cues.

2016 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition

The Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition was created to pay tribute to the patriotic commitment of our U.S. service members. Special badging and details mark each vehicle and a portion from the sale of every Freedom Edition is donated to the USO to help support service members.

Priced at an MSRP of $29,790, these Limited Edition Jeeps hearken directly back to their military roots. Appropriately, one of Freedom’s eight color choices is Tank Clear Coat, recalling the olive drab of US Army fame.

The soft-top Wrangler Freedom is powered by Jeep’s 3.6-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine delivering 285-horsepower. The transmission is a six-speed manual or an optional five-speed automatic. The four-wheel drive system is joined by 3.21 front/rear axle ratios and TracLok differential rear axle.

The interior is a recognition that, whether on or off-road, passengers should enjoy a certain degree of comfort. The standard seating combines leather and high quality cloth. Buyer’s have the option of heated front seats, a removable hard-top, and a Class II Trailer hitch.

2016 Jeep Wrangler Black Bear Edition

The Black Bear Edition, starting at $28,790, is another specific trim configuration of limited edition Jeeps that appeals to active consumers. The Black Bear is driven by the same 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine and the transmission options as the Freedom.

The distinctive exterior of the Black Bear, true to its name, comes with a low-gloss black grille, black front bumper, black fuel filler door, black lamp guards, and black rear bumper. A black top and an optional massive hood decal depicting a wilderness topographical map add to the Black Bear’s special identity. It rides on 17-inch by 7.5-inch semi-gloss aluminum wheels in black, of course and comes standard with power rack-and-pinion steering.

Standard and optional elements make the drive comfortable. A chrome and leather-wrapped gear shift knob plus leather-wrapped steering wheel add style. And the iron-gray interior accents soften the otherwise black interior. Fully reclining front seats provide a comfortable place for driver and front passenger to rest during their adventures.

On the highway or offroad, safety is still the most important ingredient of the Jeep Black Bear. This Wrangler is equipped with advanced multi-stage front airbags, ample seat belts, electronic roll mitigation, electronic stability control (ESC), front stabilizer bar, fog lamps, front tank and transfer case skid plates, and halogen headlights. Remote keyless entry is standard along with the Sentry Key theft deterrent system.
