2017 Jeep Cherokee
The Jeep Cherokee is an award-winning and trusted compact SUV. For the 2017 model year, Jeep made a few changes to the lineup and there are eight different Cherokee trims. All trims have great standard features that make driving fun, efficient and safe. The Cherokee is also very affordable and it has an excellent fuel economy, so drivers can expect savings at the fuel pump, too.
There are eight Jeep Cherokee trims in the 2017 lineup and all of them are available with two- or four-wheel drive (Cherokee Trailhawk is only 4x4). The most popular Cherokee trims include the Trail Rated Cherokee Trailhawk and Cherokee Overland, and they both offer premium features. The lineup starts with the base trim, the Cherokee Sport, which is nicely equipped for its affordable price.
The standard engine on all of the Jeep Cherokee trims is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder MultiAir engine. The engine is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, making the Cherokee the only mid-size SUV with a nine-speed configuration. The Cherokee produces 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque and it has a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway -- which is excellent for an SUV.
Buyers also have the option of upgrading the engine to a more powerful 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine with start-stop technology. The larger engine produces 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The transmission on the 3.2-liter engine is also a nine-speed automatic transmission and it helps to provide the Cherokee with its fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
The 2017 Jeep Cherokee has the same modern style that was introduced when the model was redesigned in 2014. Unlike other Jeep models that have wide and square headlights, the Cherokee has sharp and slanted headlights that give it a sleeker appearance. One new standard feature on all 2017 Cherokee trims (excluding Cherokee Sport) are the improved high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, which increases driver safety by increasing visibility.
The Jeep Cherokee rides on 17-inch steel wheels and all-season Firestone tires, and buyers can upgrade to 18-inch rims as well. The Cherokee is equipped with active grille shutters and power side mirrors. For extra convenience, the Cherokee comes standard with the Jeep cargo management system with utility hooks and bag kit. Buyers have the option of six different exterior colors.
The Jeep Cherokee is a four-door five-passenger mid-size SUV that is comfortable for all passengers. The back row seats can fold flat and open up 54.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity and there is also a full-length floor console for additional storage. The Cherokee comes standard with cloth low-back bucket seats and buyers can upgrade to premium cloth or leather seating.
Tech and Entertainment
The Cherokee has a number of entertainment and tech options on all trim levels, including a standard 5-inch touchscreen display. There are multiple power outlets, so multiple mobile devices can be charging at once. In addition to the standard AM/FM radio, the Cherokee has Uconnect 5.0, a media hub complete with USB, auxiliary and SD card hookups, so there are plenty of listening options for long road trips and the daily commute.
Safety, Pricing + Warranty
The Jeep Cherokee is loaded with a variety of safety features. It has advanced multistage airbags and a few different types of supplemental airbags including side-curtain front and rear airbags. The Cherokee also has all speed traction control, hill start assist, electronic roll mitigation and electronic stability control.
Price and Warranty
The 2017 Jeep Cherokee Sport starts at $23,595. All Jeeps are backed by a 3-year or 36,000-mile limited basic warranty, five-year or 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty and unlimited roadside assistance for five years.
