In days past, car-buyers had a very simple choice of transmission: 4-speed or nothing at all. Then there was (and arguably still is) the time, when 6-speed transmissions were in vogue. Luxury models, however, have since bypassed 6-speed transmissions in favor of an even better 7-speed transmission. The next logical progression would be an 8-speed transmission.
