Jeep Pickup Still Possible, Says CEO

Since the mid 2000's, there have been rumors that Jeep would produce another pickup truck. During the auto maker's heyday, jeeps and pickups were solid attention getters, bringing people onto the lots of Hollywood Chrysler Jeep in Hollywood, FL.

It seems like there is still a chance for Jeep's pickup dreams to come true, possibly in the form of a Jeep Wrangler variant, or built on the Wrangler 4-door body.

At the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, Jeep CEO Mike Manley expressed that Jeep is still very interested to making a pickup.

"If we were doing something like that, for it to be monetized properly, we'd likely partner it with another, equally appropriate, platform," Manley said during Jeep's press conference at LAAS, while standing beside a Wrangler-based Gladiator concept. "I wouldn't want to come to market with anything that wasn't Jeep capable, no matter where we'd sell it," Manley added.1

Jeep Comanche was the last pickup to be built by the auto maker, and was based off the Cherokee of that period. However, offerings from partners Chrysler and Dodge caused an early extinction of Comanche in 1992. Perhaps how is the time for Jeep to resurrect this durable truck.
