The 2019 Jeep Cherokee is easier on the eyes thanks to its complete model year redesign, but these changes are more than skin-deep. Additional tech and safety features, coupled with the introduction of the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, make the Jeep Cherokee a vehicle worth checking out.

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee offers two drivetrains – front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD). The FWD drivetrain is available on the following trims: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Altitude, Limited and Overland. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain has a few more options that seriously expand on the vehicle’s power, available on the Latitude, Latitude Plus, Altitude, Trailhawk, Limited, Trailhawk Elite and Overland trims. The trims powered by the 180-horsepower 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 engine are the Latitude, Latitude Plus, Altitude, and Limited trims. The Cherokee Overland, Trailhawk, and Trailhawk Elites trims on the other hand, are powered by a 3.2-liter V6 24-valve engine with VVT that’s capable of generating 239 lb-ft of torque and a whopping 271 horsepower. The brand new engine from FCA, a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, is available on all trims, but the Limited. This engine is capable of generating 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and is set to become the next standard engine, aiming to replace the existing Tigershark engine. All engines are matched to a nine-speed transmission.
4×4 Systems & Towing
The 2019 Jeep Cherokee is no wimp when it comes to off-road options. Active Drive I – a full-time 4×4 system that can send torque to all four wheels when conditions require it – comes standard on the Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, and Overland trims. For the adventurers out there, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and Trailhawk Elite both come with Jeep’s Active Drive II – a 4×4 system that includes the active Drive I system with a low range and an additional neutral mode for added capability. Active Drive Lock 4×4 is also included with a mechanical rear axle lock and the exclusive Rock mode for the Selec-Terrain Traction Management system.
Consumers also have various levels of towing capabilities thanks to the 3 available engines. The Tigershark engine is rated to tow up to 2000 pounds, the newly-introduced turbocharged engine up to 4000 pounds, and the V6 up to 4500 pounds.
The exterior style of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee remains consistent throughout all the trims, all of them benefitting from the updated front and rear design. LED daytime running headlamps, high beams, fog lamps, heated exterior mirrors, solar control glass and automatic on/off headlamps are standard features with FWD. The exquisite CommandView dual-pane panoramic sunroof is available on all trims but the Cherokee Latitude – the base trim. The Cherokee Limited and Overland trims get a little more technical with exterior mirrors complete with memory and turn signals. Auto high beam headlight control is offered as optional on the Cherokee Limited and Overland trims.
Interior options don’t differ that much from trim-to-trim. Standard features include a 60/40 folding split recline seat, floor console, overhead console, manual six-way adjustable driver and front passenger seats, a day/night rearview mirror, rear seat heat ducts, and an active noise-control system (not available on the Cherokee Latitude trim). On the high-end trims like the Cherokee Limited and Overland, features such as memory settings for the driver seat/radio/exterior mirror, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats come standard. The Cherokee Latitude Plus, Limited, and Overland trims all come with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, while the Cherokee Latitude Plus is the only to offer Jeep’s power eight-way driver seat.
All trims come with the Uconnect 4 infotainment system with Bluetooth integrated voice command, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capabilities. A 7-inch display is standard on the Cherokee Latitude, Latitude Plus, and the Altitude trims. Meanwhile, an 8.4-inch display is standard on the Trailhawk, Trailhawk Elite, and Limited trims. The Cherokee Overland is in a league of its own with an 8.4-inch display fully loaded with the Uconnect 4C with navigation – a feature that’s an optional upgrade on the Trailhawk, Trailhawk Elite, and Limited trims. Audiophiles will be happy to know that the Cherokee Latitude, Latitude Plus, and Limited trims come with a hefty six-speaker system, while the Cherokee Overland trim enjoys a 9-amplified speaker system with HD radio as the high-tier trim. The 9-amplified speaker system is available as an upgrade on the Trailhawk, and Trailhawk Elite trims.
Safety Features and Warranty
Consumers won’t be disappointed with the many standard features offered in the 2019 Jeep Cherokee, including – stability and traction control systems, an enhanced accident response system, a ParkView rear backup camera, and an advanced multistage front airbag system with additional airbags all around the cabin. Advanced safety features available on the higher-end trims are full-speed collision warning with crash mitigation, keyless passive entry, a remote start system, a security alarm, blind spot and cross path detection, and LaneSense lane departure warning system.
All Jeep vehicles are covered by a 3-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for five years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for five years or 100,000, respectively whichever comes first.
