2021 Jeep Renegade
The 2021 Jeep Renegade remains as unconventional as ever, rejecting the traits of other subcompact crossovers it shares its segment with. Its smaller dimensions and toy-like design are hallmarks of its segment, but its off-road prowess and available features set it apart from the rest.
Avail. Engine Type
The 2021 Jeep Renegade is offered in seven different trims: Sport, Latitude, Upland, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk and High Altitude. All Sport, Latitude, Upland, and Altitude trims are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder Tigershark engine under the hood that generates 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The rest of the higher-tier trims, such as the Limited, Trailhawk, and High Altitude trims are powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Sport and Latitude trims feature the 1.3-liter engine as an available upgrade. The 2021 Jeep Renegade powered by the 2.4-liter engine has a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway (21/29 mpg with 4×4), while the Renegade powered by the 1.3-liter engine has a fuel economy of 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway (23/29 mpg with 4×4).
The Renegade offers prospective buyers two different 4×4 systems to choose from. The Active Drive 4×4 system is one of them — a part-time 4×4 system that automatically engages depending on changing driving conditions or by driver input and comes standard on the Renegade Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims. The Renegade Trailhawk trim also includes a part-time 4×4 system: Active Drive Low – a system with low-range capability that provides low-speed traction with an impressive crawl ratio of 21:1. Both the Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 systems also feature the additional Jeep Selec-Terrain system that gives drivers five driving modes to choose from: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock.
The 2021 Jeep Renegade exterior doesn’t feature a lot of changes, but its stance remains aggressive for a subcompact SUV, including tow hooks and numerous wheel and tire combos. Jeep offers buyers various packages, including an LED Lighting Group that adds LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, daytime running lights, and cornering fog lamps. The Sun & Sound Package adds an available dual-pane panoramic sunroof and a nine-speaker Kenwood Premium Audio sound system. Lower body side-cladding and monotone paint are standard across all trims, but side roof rails vary from black to chrome depending on the trim. Customers interested in an immersive Jeep experience of open-air feeling, there are the My Sky Power retractable/removable panels offered as an optional upgrade across the entire Renegade lineup.
As quirky on the inside as its exterior design, the 2021 Jeep Renegade offers the following standard features — steering wheel-mounted audio controls, a height-adjustable rear cargo floor, a front center sliding armrest, and cargo tie-down loops. The upholstery varies from cloth to fabric, with supple leather an optional upgrade on the high-tier trims. Luxurious trims such as the Limited and Trailhawk trims come standard with a leather-wrapped shift knob and all-season floor mats. The Renegade Limited trim is the top tier of the trims and includes heated front seats, a power 8-way driver seat with lumbar support, and a 40/20/40 rear seat with trunk pass-thru access. Storage solutions blow the competition out of the water thanks to chairs that fold flat for optimal cargo room, mesh pockets for storage, and an adjustable cargo floor in the trunk.
Infotainment systems vary depending on the trim with a media hub (USB and AUX connections) and a 6-speaker audio system as the only standard features across the entire lineup. All trims feature the brand’s Uconnect infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen display, complete with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capabilities, integrated voice command Bluetooth and audio streaming. There’s also an 8.4-inch touchscreen display that’s standard on the higher-tier trims, with navigation as an additional upgrade, as is a Kenwood Premium Sound system.
Safety Features and Warranty
Standard safety features on all 2021 Renegade vehicles include supplemental side airbags both in the front and rear of the cabin, an advanced multistage front airbag system, stability control systems, an anti-lock braking system, a ParkView rear backup camera, panic brake assist, electronic roll mitigation, and LATCH-ready anchors for children’s car seats. Jeep was generous with its latest advanced safety features as the following are standard on the 2021 Jeep Renegade — Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Adaptive Cruise Control is available as an upgrade.
All Jeep vehicles come standard with a basic 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance over the course of five years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first), and rust-through coverage for five years or 100,000 miles. The 2021 Jeep Renegade has a starting MSRP of $22,850 (plus destination fee).
