2022 Jeep Wrangler
Nothing says freedom like the iconic Jeep Wrangler and its 2022 model is no exception. The retro exterior remains the same, but the interior of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler is packed with modern conveniences, including the latest in infotainment, as well as available adaptive cruise control, and an eight-speaker sound system. Trims range from entry-level to luxurious and buyers can expect leather upholstery, in-dash navigation, onboard Wi-Fi connectivity and much more.
Avail. Engine Type
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler offers more than 10 trims for the model year, including the entry-level Sport, Sport S, Sahara, Rubicon, Willys, High Altitude, High Tide, Sahara 4xe, Rubicon 4xe, and Rubicon 392 among others. A 285-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine is the standard under the hood and can be paired either with a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Other power plant options include an available 3.0-liter diesel V6, the all-new plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrain, and the hefty 6.4-liter V8 that’s exclusive to the Rubicon 392 trim. Wrangler vehicles are all off-road ready with standard part-time four-wheel drive. The Command-Trac 4×4 system that’s standard on the entry-level tier trims offers buyers a 2.72:1 crawl ratio and can conquer even the roughest terrain out there. Other performance-oriented trims, like the Rubicon and Rubicon 392 for example, come standard with the Rock-Trac 4×4 system and brings skid plates, front and rear tow hooks, Tru-Lok differentials, a 4LO crawling ratio of 4:1. Selec-Trac is also available and allows the Wrangler to automatically switch to 4×4 prowess when the driving conditions require it. The Driver is tasked with using knob that determines the exact amount of traction depending whether the Wrangler is traversing snow, mud, rocks, sand, or other challenging driving conditions.
What’s new for 2022?
For 2022, Jeep introduces the Xtreme Recon Package for the Willys trim. The adventure-ready trim features a 1.5-inch suspension lift straight from the factory, 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires that ride on 17-inch wheels, a host of blacked-out exterior trim and badges, upgraded brakes and much more. The Willys Xtreme Recon Wrangler comes standard with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine under its hood and is limited to the four-door style. Although no longer necessarily new on the scene, the rise of plug-in hybrid vehicles make the Wrangler’s 4xe powertrain more important than ever before. Buyers can count on a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine supplemented by a battery capable of all-electric propulsion, with a 49 MPGe rating.
The heritage and recognizable style of the Jeep Wrangler remains intact. LED headlamps, LED turn signals, and LED taillamps are available on the high-tier trims, but the most innovative feature introduced by Jeep is the Sky One-Touch powertop that’s able to retract the full length of the roof with the simple push of a button – just like a convertible! However, unlike convertibles, this power soft top is able to function even while the SUV is in motion at 60 mph. The premium Sunrider soft top does away with the traditional window and back windshield zippers and replaces the joints with a sliding track mechanism for easy removal and retrieval. The hardtop option is still available and comes in three pieces including the removable freedom panels. Unlike the last-generation Wrangler, this hardtop offers new and improved latches that make hardtop removal faster than before.
On the inside, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler remains true to its heritage design in terms of looks, but this time it offers much more comfort and high-quality materials. Front-seat passengers can enjoy a center stack with functional features such as climate and volume control knobs, connectivity ports, and an Engine Stop-Start (ESS) button easily within their reach. Cloth upholstery is standard in the cabin, but leather-contoured seats are offered on the higher-tier trims, with the 80th Anniversary Edition and the Rubicon 392 taking the luxurious lead. Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and automatic climate control make up the comfort features available as upgrades. There’s a 7-inch touchscreen display that lets drivers configure information in more than 100 ways, while the controls for audio, voice, and cruise control are mounted on the steering wheel for optimal convenience.
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler comes standard with a 5-inch touchscreen display complete with the highly-lauded Uconnect infotainment system, an eight-speaker audio system, USB and auxiliary ports, a 115-volt power outlet, and Bluetooth voice connectivity. Higher-tier trims offer an optional 7- or 8.4-inch touchscreen display with an upgraded Uconnect infotainment system with navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Google Android Auto capabilities, and an available Alpine audio system complete with a subwoofer.
