IIHS Deems the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica a Top Safety Pick+

February 25th, 2022 by

The Chrysler Pacifica has done it again! The 2022 model year Pacifica earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Safety is of the essence when it comes to the Chrysler Pacifica and the minivan reprised its 2021 performance of being a Top Safety Pick+ as vehicles produced after September (2021) also qualify for this very same rating.

“The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica delivers on our firm commitment to provide customers with superior safety. Pacifica remains the ideal choice for anyone seeking the greatest combination of safety, innovative technology and value,” said Chrysler Brand CEO Chris Feuell.

Hoping to give a greater emphasis on lighting and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology, the IIHS revised its rating system back in 2020. The IIHS deemed the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica’s standard vehicle-to-vehicle AEB system as “Superior,” the highest possible rating. Benefitting from advanced camera technology as well as radar sensors, the 2022 Pacifica is refined with a wider field of view than ever before. The active blend of two methods of object detection, commonly referred to as sensor-fusion, gives the Pacifica redundancy that improves its overall system performance.

AEB is currently being incorporated throughout the Stellantis lineup as standard equipment. The system identifies when specific frontal collisions may be imminent and acts to correct or avoid a collision altogether. Owners can count on the system to detect imminent collisions and alert them via visual and audible alerts. Should drivers fail to respond to any of the visual or auditory cues, the system automatically engages the brakes to help avoid an impact, or attempt to lessen the severity of said impact.

The IIHS rated the Pacifica’s AEB system as “advanced,” while the vehicle itself earned a “good” rating – the highest available rating – in all core crashworthiness tests:

  • Small overlap front (driver side)
  • Small overlap front (passenger side)
  • Moderate overlap, front
  • Side impact
  • Roof strength
  • Head restraints and seats

As of now, the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica remains North America’s only minivan that offers second-row Stow ‘n Go seating, allowing for fold-in-the-floor convenience and paired with all-wheel-drive (AWD). The Pacifica’s AWD technology engages automatically at any speed without any input from the driver. Should any of the vehicle’s wheels lose traction, the AWD system automatically transfers any available engine torque to the wheels that have more traction, providing greater control overall. Thanks to more than 160 industry awards and accolades, the Chrysler Pacifica remains the automotive industry’s most awarded minivan for the sixth year in a row.
