10 More Reasons to Love the 2020 Jeep Gladiator

August 25th, 2020 by

Late in 2019, Jeep launched the long-awaited 2020 Gladiator midsize pickup to much acclaim after a 27-year absence in the segment. The all-new Jeep Gladiator offers many of the same features as the JL Wrangler on which it’s based.  However, the Gladiator’s got plenty of its own tricks up its sleeve, and that makes it one of the most exciting pickups to launch in the last decade. Here are ten different reasons why the Jeep Gladiator is the midsize pickup to beat.

Inspired by the Wrangler

The Gladiator packs all of the iconic design cues of the Wrangler model, but takes the legendary capability and functional design to the next level. Configurability, along with a litany of other design options make the Gladiator a one-of-a-kind pickup in a segment that’s arguably small and filled with generic pickups that just don’t match up to Jeep’s standards.

Advantages of a Pickup

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator offers a 5-foot long pickup bed in the rear, on par with other short bed offerings like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado. Additionally, the Gladiator also offers buyers an excellent 7,650-lb of towing capacity and a 1,600-lb maximum payload. This prowess allows the Gladiator to haul kayaks, bikes, a boat, a slide-in camper — you name it.

Removable Roof

Just like on the Wrangler, the Gladiator also features a removable roof that’s made of either composite hard plastic — better known as a hardtop, or classic reinforced canvas fabric. Both options are offered along a variety of possible configurations, including an integrated sliding rear window on those Gladiator pickups with a hardtop. No matter how the 2020 Gladiator is configured, it’s always prepped and primed for that open-air freedom that Jeep is notorious for.

Removable Doors

Another feature in common with the Wrangler model? The Gladiator uses the same exact doors as the Wrangler, and just like on the Wrangler, the doors are removable on the Gladiator model as well. Additionally, all of the already-existing accessory doors — such as tube doors and half doors — that suit the Wrangler also suit the Gladiator. And doors aren’t the only accessories available to suit both the Wrangler and the Gladiator — find plenty of other official aftermarket parts at Mopar.com.

Folding Windshield

The Gladiator also offers a folding windshield as well, and unlike the complicated windshields of the past, this one is simple too. There’s a included ratchet kit that’s designed to remove the Gladiator’s windshield wipers and unscrew four bolts along the top of the roof, for the ultimate open-air experience.

Rubicon Trim

Another similarity with the Wrangler model is that the Gladiator’s top-tier trim is also the Rubicon trim. Buyers can expect an upgraded four-wheel-drive transfer case, gearing for low-speed off-roading, locking front- and rear differentials, hefty all-terrain tires, an electronically-disconnected front sway bar, taller fender flares, and Fox shock absorbers. Not only does the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon come with rock rails, it also features protection along the rear bed overhang as well.

Solid Front Axle

It turns out that the Gladiator is the only non-heavy duty pickup on the market that’s offered with a solid front axle. The Wrangler is also the last SUV on sale in the U.S. with a solid front axle as well. This feature is excellent for low-speed off-roading thanks to its durability and flexibility.

Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Behind the back seat, buyers can pop out a removable Bluetooth speaker that’s portable for those times when the adventure continues outside the vehicle. This nifty one-of-a-kind feature is only available on the Jeep Gladiator.

Although the Gladiator launched with a single engine option, the classic 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, the model will gain an efficient diesel engine option by the end of 2020. The redesigned EcoDiesel engine offers more torque than the original gas engine, but due to cooling needs its towing capacity is a bit lower.

When it comes to customization and personalization, the Jeep Gladiator is definitely the pickup to beat thanks to its endless options. Buyers can accessorize their Gladiator pickup with storage solutions, camper tops, innovative truck bed caps and more.
