2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk Specs
Avail. l4 MultiAir Engine
The 2016 Jeep Renegade is a compact crossover sports utility vehicle (SUV). It’s not the kind of vehicle you’d expect from the Jeep brand, especially when compared to models like the Wrangler. Nevertheless, the Renegade is making an impact on the market, and Jeep isn’t leaving its newest addition to the wolves. It still has all the same Jeep favorites fans of the brand would expect.
Off-road capabilities? You betcha. Classic Jeep look? Of course. The Jeep Renegade still looks like a Jeep, and still acts like a Jeep, so it is in fact a Jeep – just a little different. Where it really shines is the option to still enjoy all of that open air fun, particularly when taking into account the My Sky removable roof panels, but we’ll get to that soon enough.
Available in six trims, the 2016 Jeep Renegade has one trim that strikes a chord with those loyal to the brand and off-roading, the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk 4×4.
The Jeep Renegade likes to toot the horn of its 1.4-liter I4 MultiAir Turbo engine that is under the hood of all Renegade trims with the exception of the Renegade Trailhawk and Limited. The Renegade Trailhawk and Limited trims are powered by a 2.4-liter I4 MultiAir engine. As usual, the larger the engine, the more power it puts out; plus, the Renegade makes great use of Jeep’s MultiAir technology without the turbocharge.
MultiAir engines were designed to increase engine power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Turbocharging this just doubles the effort, so the Renegade Trailhawk offers great power. If anything, due to its increase in power being a 2.4-liter engine, other Renegades may need the turbocharger just to keep up with it’s 180-horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission and Drivability
Gears in the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk are switched via a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Renegade Trailhawk’s engine and transmission configuration provide it with a fuel economy of 21 MPG in the city and 29 MPG when on the highway.
With its “Best-in-class” 4×4 capabilities, the Jeep Renegade has two 4×4 systems available, and the Trailhawk is a little special with its Active Drive Low system. This set up is what helped it earn a Trail Rated badge, proof of its ability to perform well under a variety of conditions. Add in its stiff body structure and response steering system, and it all adds up to premium performance.
The Jeep Renegade Trailhawk rides on 17-inch rims fit with all-terrain tires. And in case of a flat tire while off-roading, the Renegade Trailhawk is equipped with a full-size spare tire. Buyers have the option of 10 different exterior colors, many of which are vibrant.
As mentioned above, the Jeep Renegade is available with an all-new power or fixed My Sky open-air dual panel roof. The My Sky roof can be retracted or removed completely for that classic open-roof Jeep look. Conveniently, they are stored flat in a height-adjustable cargo area in the Renegade.
Fitted with deep tint sunscreen glass, the Trailhawk interior is protected from UV rays and heat buildup. It also comes with heated exterior mirrors with turn signals, automatic headlamps, front fog lamps, and two unique badges: the “Trailhawk” and the “4×4” badge.
Luxurious, Convenient Interior
The maximum seating capacity for the Trailhawk is 5 passengers. They can all sit comfortably in the available lux leather-trimmed seats, and if extra space is needed, the rear row has a 60/40 folding seat, leaving room for at least one extra passenger in the back. In addition, cargo tie down loops can be found in the Renegade Trailhawk to hold down equipment and gear for that next adventure.
For a little convenience and luxury, a 7-inch instrument cluster display has been integrated into the dashboard, along with an electronic vehicle information center. Enjoy the feel of the leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and keep those hands on the wheel with steering wheel mounted audio controls.
Drivers and passengers will be able to enjoy a 6-speaker audio system with auxiliary capability when riding in the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. A 1-year subscription to SiriusXM Radio is included, and HD Radio is an available option. A GPS Antenna is included standard in case drivers would like to upgrade from Uconnect 5.0 to 6.5 NAV. This of course will also result in a larger touchscreen, going from 5 inches to 6.5 inches.
Bluetooth voice command has been integrated into the system for hands-free phone use. Uconnect Access is another available option in the Trailhawk, an app that makes up a network of smaller apps, such as map markers, vehicle health reports and alerts, voice texting, and more.
Safety Features and Warranty
An advanced multistage front airbag system has been installed into the Jeep Renegade series, complete with a driver’s inflatable knee-bolster airbag, and supplemental side airbags in the front and rear. Electronic roll mitigation and stability control are necessary features when going off-road, and drivers will be glad the Renegade has them.
A ParkView rear back-up camera and panic brake assist system has been installed for increased driver awareness and peace of mind. An occupant detection system has also been installed, along with LATCH ready car seat system. For increased convenience, the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk has passive, keyless entry and go technology.
The Jeep Renegade comes with a basic 3-year/36,000 mile warranty, a 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for 5 years or 100,000 miles.
