2.4L Engine

The standard engine on all of the Jeep Cherokee trims is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder MultiAir engine. The Cherokee produces 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque and it has a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway — which is excellent for an SUV.

3.2L Engines

Buyers also have the option of upgrading the engine to a more powerful 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine with start-stop technology. The larger engine produces 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The transmission on the 3.2-liter engine is also a nine-speed automatic transmission and it helps to provide the Cherokee with its fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
