2020 Jeep Compass Highlights
Jeep introduced the all-new Compass in 2017, ridding the vehicle from the baggage associated with the old name. Many knew the Compass as the plasticky entry-level SUV that spun off from the old Dodge Caliber, but now the Compass finds itself in a completely different ballgame. The Compass gets plenty of updates for the 2020 model year, including ventilated front seats, new safety packages, optional premium speakers, as well as a new exterior red color. Pricing hasn’t been announced for 2020 as of yet, but in the meantime let’s check out a few highlights for the 2020 Jeep Compass.
The 2020 Compass is based on the same platform as the Cherokee and Renegade models and is powered by the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that’s capable of generating 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Both the Sport and North trims are available in front- or all-wheel-drive with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission — buyer’s choice! The Trailhawk and Limited trims are offered only with all-wheel-drive and use a nine-speed automatic transmission instead. The all-wheel-drive system is called Jeep Active Drive and it automatically sends power to the front wheels unless driving conditions require that the back wheels have traction as well.
On the top-tier Trailhawk trim, the Jeep Active Drive system offers buyers a selectable low range with a 20:1 crawl ratio, plus more ground clearance and skid plates. There’s also the Limited trim, which is more about comfort features and appearance, unlike the performance-oriented Trailhawk. The Compass Limited features an auto-dimming mirror, leather seats with perforated inserts, heated seats and steering wheel, and 18-inch wheels. Standard features regardless of trim include the Uconnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, tire pressure monitoring systems, and a height-adjustable cargo floor.
The Compass makes a fine daily commuter with its comfortable ride and quiet cabin. Even though the all-wheel-drive system determines when power shifts to the rear tires, the driver can use a dial to change the settings and optimize the performance depending on driving conditions. Be it snow, sand or mud, or rock the 2020 Compass can handle itself. There’s even a special 4WD Lock button that allows drivers to keep the system locked at low speeds when they need extra traction for pulling snow or mud.
On the inside, the 2020 Compass is handsomely styled with simple controls and a small-item storage bin so people can store their phones or other everyday-carry items. The Uconnect infotainment system is one of the best in the business thanks to its intuitive icons and menus and its quick response time. When it comes to cargo room, the 2020 Compass offers its best figures when the 60/40 seats are folded, while the multi-level cargo floor gives buyers the option of extra cargo height.
