2020 Jeep Renegade
The small-but-mighty entry-level subcompact SUV is the brand’s best offering when it comes to introductory Jeep levels. A fuel-efficient powertrain, off-road capabilities, and trims that range from standard to luxurious all make the 2020 Jeep Renegade an innovative little SUV-that-can.
Avail. Engine Type
The 2020 Jeep Renegade is offered in seven different trims: Sport, Latitude, Upland, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, and High Altitude. All Sport, Latitude, Upland, and Altitude trims are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder Tigershark engine under the hood that generates 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The rest of the higher-tier trims, such as the Limited Trailhawk, and High Altitude trims are powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Sport and Latitude trims offer the 1.3-liter engine as an available upgrade. The 2020 Jeep Renegade has a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
The Renegade offers prospective buyers two different 4×4 systems to choose from. The Active Drive 4×4 system is one of them — a part-time 4×4 system that automatically engages depending on changing driving conditions or by driver input and comes standard on the Renegade Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims. The Renegade Trailhawk trim also includes a part-time 4×4 system: Active Drive Low – a system with low-range capability that provides low-speed traction with an impressive crawl ratio of 21:1. Both the Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 systems also feature the additional Jeep Selec-Terrain system that gives drivers five driving modes to choose from: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock.
Fresh off a 2019 redesign that included a refreshed exterior with a new front fascia among other features, the 2020 Jeep Renegade does not boast any major exterior changes. Wheel options for the Latitude and Limited trims include – 19-inch aluminum Granite Crystal wheels, a first for the subcompact SUV. An LED Lighting Group available on the 2020 Renegade lineup adds LED headlamps, cornering fog lamps, LED tail lamps, and daytime running lamps.
Each unique trim comes with its respective badge lest a prospective owner forget they’re behind the wheel of a Jeep vehicle. Side roof rails vary from black to chrome depending on the trim, while lower body side-cladding and monotone paint are standard across all trims. The My Sky Power retractable/removable panels are an optional upgrade across the lineup as a way to enjoy that open-air feeling that the Jeep brand is known for. Three new exterior paint colors have been added for the 2020 lineup – Bikini, Sting Grey, and Slate Blue – and will have late availability. An additional seven other exterior colors already exist and are as follows: Colorado Red, Omaha Orange, Granite Crystal, Jetset Blue Metallic, Glacier Metallic, Black, and Alpine White.
Features are varied depending on the trim, but standard across all trims consumers will find steering wheel-mounted audio controls, a height-adjustable rear cargo floor, a front center sliding armrest, and cargo tie-down loops. The upholstery varies from cloth to fabric, while leather is an optional upgrade on the more luxurious trims. Higher-tier trims such as the Limited and Trailhawk trims come standard with all-season floor mats and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The Renegade Limited is top of the lineup with features such as heated front seats, a power 8-way driver seat with lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, and a 40/20/40 rear seat with trunk pass-thru for convenience. All 2020 Renegade vehicles now include new instrument cluster graphics.
Six new interior color combinations are now available for 2020 Renegade trims including Black Sandstrom with Metal Diamond accents, Trailhawk Black with Ruby Red accents, Trespass Black with Metal Diamond accents, Polar Plunge leather with Grillz accents, Black leather with Grillz accents, and Polar Plunge with Metal Diamond accents.
Just like with many of the other features, the infotainment system varies depending on the trim with a media hub (USB and AUX connections) and a 6-speaker audio system as the only standards across the lineup. A new Uconnect 4 infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capabilities, integrated voice command Bluetooth, audio streaming, and a complimentary SiriusXM Sat Radio one-year subscription are all standard features of every trim but the Sport trim. A larger 8.4-inch touchscreen display with navigation is an available upgrade, as is an eight-speaker premium Beats Audio sound system complete with a subwoofer for quality sound.
Safety Features and Warranty
Standard safety features across the lineup include supplemental side airbags both in the front and rear of the cabin, an advanced multistage front airbag system, a ParkView rear backup camera, panic brake assist, electronic roll mitigation, stability control systems, an anti-lock braking system, and LATCH-ready anchors for children’s car seats.
