2021 Chrysler Pacifica Earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating From IIHS

December 1st, 2021 by

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica strikes again having earned yet another Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The rating specifically applies to Chrysler Pacifica vehicles assembled after September of this year (2021). Upgrades on the model included a headlamp performance upgrade and added Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking as standard features.

“Winning the highest IIHS safety rating of TSP+ distinguishes the Chrysler Pacifica’s superior safety technology and performance. Pacifica is the perfect choice for modern families who are looking for a minivan with the greatest combination of safety, functionality and value,” said Chrysler Brand CEO Chris Feuell.

Crashworthiness

IIHS has six core crashworthiness tests that it conducts, and the Pacifica earned a “good” grad — meaning the highest possible rating — on all of them:

  • Small overlap front (driver side)
  • Small overlap front (passenger side)
  • Moderate overlap, front
  • Side impact
  • Roof strength
  • Head restraints and seats

Additionally, the minivan’s Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking feature earned a “superior” rating — the highest possible rating for a feature. Camera technology and radar sensors work together to deliver a wider field of vision than the previous Automatic Emergency Braking system. Chrysler craftly blended two different methods of object detection, thus enhancing the overall system. Consumers can expect this feature to be a standard across the Stellantis lineup. Soon enough frontal collisions will be a thing of the past, as the braking system detects the conditions in which a collision is imminent and generates audible alerts to warn the driver. If the audible alerts do not generate a response, the system activates the vehicle’s brakes automatically to help avoid a collision or lessen its impact.

Currently, the Chrysler Pacifica model remains America’s sole minivan with second-row Stow ‘n Go seating, offering fold-in-the-floor convenience. Chrysler also recently added available all-wheel drive to its Pacifica lineup, further reinforcing the idea that there’s nothing this minivan cannot tackle. The model’s all-wheel drive technology engages at any speed without any input from the driver, regardless of speed. Should any of the minivan’s wheels lose traction at any point throughout the ride, the all-wheel drive system automatically transfers any available engine torque to the wheels with more traction for improved vehicle control.

With more than 160 automotive honors and accolades, the Chrysler Pacifica holds steady as the industry’s most awarded minivan over the course of the past five years. The minivan segment, initially invented by Chrysler in the 1980s, continues to be redefined by Chrysler thanks to the automaker’s unprecedented level of versatility, technology, bold styling, and overall functionality. Deserving of a special mention is the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid model, the first electrified variant in its segment. With more than 80 MPGe, an all-electric range of more than 30 miles, and an overall total range that exceeds 500 miles, it’s not hard to see why the Pacifica Hybrid is increasingly popular.
