Congratulations are in order for the 2023 Wagoneer, which when equipped with the all-new Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6 engine, as well as the All Terrain Group package, is Four Wheeler’s 2023 SUV of the Year. Over the course of 50 years in which Four Wheeler has given out these awards, Jeep is the most awarded brand overall. The automaker’s previous win was in 2022 for the Jeep Rubicon 392–it remains the fastest and most powerful Jeep Wrangler vehicle yet.

The publication’s competition is open to all-new or otherwise significantly revised SUVs for the coming model year (2023) and is judged by the editors of the famed 4×4 publication.

Vehicles are often put to the test over a weeklong period, including 0-60 and quarter-mile acceleration times, track testing, on- and off-road evaluations (in the Southern California mountains and deserts), and 60-0 braking distance. Off-road testing conditions include rugged terrain such as sand, mud, snow, ice, loose dirt hill climbs, rutted backroads, rocky trails, and loose-surface trails. Four Wheeler even integrated night driving as one of the testing categories to gauge vehicle behavior at night, with a special focus on the lighting equipment.

“You might not look at the luxurious and plus-sized Wagoneer and realize all the capability that is lurking beneath its contemporary sheet metal, but it’s there,” said Sean P. Holman, Four Wheeler Content Director. “The big Wagoneer is going to get the family down the road in comfort and style and right past the trailhead. The traction control is exceptional, the suspension supple, and that new I-6 engine is a powerhouse of torque and refinement. We didn’t go into the test thinking the Wagoneer would win, but it earned every vote thanks to how well it did everything we asked of it.”

Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6

Powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, the Wagoneer is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. With 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque, the Hurricane engine is sure to revolutionize the Jeep lineup. Tow rating figures tap out at 9,750 pounds–just 100 pounds less than the standard wheelbase Grand Wagoneer model. Full-size SUVs aren’t usually lauded for their fast speeds, but the Wagoneer can go from 0-60 mph in just a few seconds, while completing the quarter mile in just 13.5 seconds at a top speed of 102.7 miles per hour. The 2023 Wagoneer has a starting MSRP of $59,995 (plus destination fee).

2023 Wagoneer Updates

Riding in style is part of the deal when behind the wheel of the Wagoneer, given that it’s a full-size SUV. One of the highly-anticipated additions to the 2023 Wagoneer includes the Carbide Appearance Packge–a blacked-out styling package that adds a menacing air to the vehicle. Buyers can expect gloss-black wheels, special interior trim, unique upholstery, and black exterior trim detailing. While the Wagoneer already turns heads, the 2023 model is destined to lead to even more headlines.
