2024 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler 4xe Offer Powerful Upgrades

June 27th, 2023 by

The Jeep Wrangler, a bonafide off-road powerhouse, undergoes evolutionary changes at a pace reminiscent of geological transformations. This slow and steady evolution aligns perfectly with the Wrangler’s purpose, as it is engineered to conquer whatever rugged terrain comes his way. It’s a harmonious fusion of “solid axles” and “solid rock.” Consequently, it comes as no surprise that the recent mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler 4xe hasn’t significantly altered the landscape. In fact, enthusiasts may even have to strain their eyes to notice any changes from a mere few feet away. However, despite how subtle, these changes are meaningful due to a range of factors.

Beginning with the front fascia, changes are evident in the grille slots. Jeep shortened the grille slots, giving the 2024 Wrangler a thicker rim of body-color paint surrounding the iconic seven-slot design. This alteration, however, potentially reduces the airflow reaching the radiators, which play a crucial role in supporting various powertrains such as the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the Rubicon 392 6.4-liter HEMI V8, and the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. To address enthusiasts’ airflow concerns, the previously painted ridges found between the slots in the grille have been modified to increase cooling air intake.

While the grille modifications ensure that the cooling system of the standard 3.6-liter V6 can handle an increased towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, the enhancement for the most recent 1,500-pound boost is concealed in another area. The Rubicon trim now features a full-floating rear axle design, as opposed to a semi-floating one. Unlike previous model years, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler features rear axle shafts connected to the wheel hubs as a single unit, but going forward they’ll function independently. Although there are no noticeable changes to the Rubicon trim’s ride quality or off-road performance, this alteration significantly improves camber stiffness, overall durability, and ease of trail repairs for the rear axle. Additionally, besides enabling a higher tow rating, the Rubicon trim’s new standard “full floater” design reduces the risk of ill-fitting aftermarket tires, thus enhancing overall reliability.

One of the more remarkable changes on the 2024 Wrangler lineup can be observed in the Willys, making it more capable and pricier than its previous iteration. The Willys trim now includes 33-inch Rubicon-spec BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 tires, rock rails, and a standard electronically-locking rear differential. Additionally, wider-stance axles and the high-riding fenders from the Rubicon model are included, resulting in a more rugged appearance and enhanced performance. The taller and tougher stance of the revamped Willys trim not only improves ground clearance, but also enhances approach, departure, and breakover angles.
