When Jeep first introduced the Jeep Grand Cherokee nearly 30 years ago, the automaker knew it was breaking barriers as the SUV smashed through figurative and literal windows. The benchmark SUV went on to become synonymous with uncompromising capability and upscale design–and Jeep’s never looked back. These days, the Grand Cherokee badge encompasses much more than the original, with the newly added Grand Cherokee L and Grand Cherokee 4xe models. While the Grand Cherokee L provides an extra row to cater to America’s rising interest in three-row SUVs, the Grand Cherokee 4xe looks to the future with its hybrid powertrain. Some may say it feels like very little has changed for the original, but here’s what’s new on the upcoming 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

New for 2023

The Limited trim will now feature a nine-speaker Alpine audio system as an available option, while the Overland and Summit trims now have access to the highly-lauded 19-speaker McIntosh audio system. Uconnect 5 is also getting an upgrade on the Limited and Overland trims as it now includes navigation and features a standard 10.1-inch digital touchscreen. Jeep is also overseeing the expansion of its 4xe hybrid powertrain and offering it on the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk trim as of 2023.

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee features all-new architecture and has a sculpted aerodynamic body that improves overall vehicle performance, safety and reliability. Vehicle weight, along with noise, vibration and harshness also see a reduction thanks to the improved design. Packing a powerful punch as the next-generation Grand Cherokee, the all-new model features accents and modern technology that help the vehicle stand out in a crowded SUV segment. Buyers can expect three 4×4 systems on the Jeep Grand Cherokee–Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II which includes a rear electronic limited slip differential. All three 4×4 systems rely on an active transfer case to improve overall traction and direct the vehicle’s torque to the wheel with the most grip.

Jeep also included its class-exclusive Quadra-Lift air suspension on the 2023 Grand Cherokee, adding electronic semi-active damping and up to 10.9-inches of ground clearance and 24 inches of water fording. Quadra-Lift automatically adjusts the vehicle’s shock tuning to match road conditions as it enhances comfort, stability, and control. Owners can also manually control the Quadra-Lift system thanks to console controls. Another perk of the 2023 Grand Cherokee? The model features the class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system that allows customers to choose their best on- and off-road settings for top-tier 4×4 performance. Selec-Terrain automatically coordinates 4×4 torque split, steering and suspension systems, throttle control, traction control, transfer case, braking and handling, transmission shift, and the anti-lock brake system (ABS).
