Changes Are Coming to the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer & Grand Wagoneer

The introduction of the new Hurricane inline-six engine in the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer seems to signal the discontinuation of the Hemi V-8s that were previously available for this model. While Jeep has not officially released information for the 2024 model year, research indicates that the 2024 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will exclusively feature the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine, implying the discontinuation of the previously offered 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V-8 engines.
An order guide for fleets and EPA ratings provide insight into the updates for the base 2024 Wagoneer. In the past, the standard short-wheelbase Wagoneer offered the 392-hp 5.7-liter V-8 engine. However, the new lineup will exclusively offer the 420-hp version of the Hurricane inline-six engine for the Wagoneer. Customers can choose between rear- or four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The long-wheelbase Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L models were already equipped with the inline-six engine.
The alterations for the Grand Wagoneer are somewhat less straightforward. The EPA listings for 2024 still mention the 6.4-liter V-8. However, data from dealership pricing databases indicates that all models now come with the 3.0-liter inline-six engine. This could potentially be a carryover from the previous year. The high-output variant of the Hurricane engine in the Grand Wagoneer delivers 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, offering a notable improvement over the V-8’s 471 hp and 455 pound-feet of torque.
2023 Wagoneer
Entering its second year in the market, the contemporary Wagoneer generation expands its lineup with a long-wheelbase L model, which extends the SUV’s overall length by 12 inches and adds an extra 7.0 inches to the wheelbase. This elongated Wagoneer L provides even more room for passengers and cargo, enhancing the spaciousness of the Wagoneer lineup. A new twin-turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine, boasting 420 horsepower, takes the place of the previously less fuel-efficient V-8 engine, except for the base model. Additionally, there’s now an option for a Carbide appearance package, featuring gloss-black wheels, black exterior trim accents, and unique interior trim and upholstery.
2024 Grand Wagoneer
The Grand Wagoneer L enters the lineup for the 2023 model year, boasting a wheelbase that’s seven inches longer than the standard Wagoneer and an overall length that’s a foot longer. These extensions result in significantly increased cargo space behind all three rows of seats. Beneath the hood of the long-wheelbase model lies Stellantis’s new Hurricane engine, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six producing 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. While this engine comes as standard on the elongated Grand Wagoneer L, the base trim of the regular Grand Wagoneer still offers the option of a 471-hp 6.4-liter V-8.
