During Reuters’ Automotive USA 2023 summit in Detroit, Chrysler CEO Chris Feuell hinted at the automaker’s commitment to the passenger car segment with a potential all-electric sedan. As Chrysler approaches the conclusion of production for the iconic Chrysler 300 in December, Feuell’s remarks underscore the brand’s dedication to evolving with the times and meeting the ever-growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs).

During its EV Day 2021 presentation, Chrysler, a part of Stellantis, offered a sneak peek at an upcoming electrified sedan. Ralph Gilles, Head of Stellantis’ Chief Design Officer, unveiled an enticing glimpse of what’s in store. The teaser revealed a design reminiscent of the Chrysler Airflow Concept, featuring a sleek front, a taller greenhouse, a sloping hatchback design, and a short rear deck—a notable departure from the boxy appearance of the current (soon-to-be-defunct) Chrysler 300.

“It made me kind of sad to see a lot of the OEMs walking away from the car segment. And if you think about what customers are looking for in an EV, yes, they want range. They want accessible charging. They want something that’s affordable. And from my perspective, I think we’ll see a resurgence in the car segment,” Feuell stated.

This fresh design direction aligns with the automotive industry’s evolving preference for more aerodynamic and futuristic aesthetics. Notably, the forthcoming Dodge Charger Daytona (LB) is set to embrace a hatchback design, seamlessly blending functionality with the timeless elegance of a sedan.

Post the EV Day 2021 presentation, the media received an additional teaser image showcasing a potential future Chrysler sedan, sharing similarities with the profile of the Dodge Charger Daytona. This suggests a promising production candidate that could rejuvenate the brand’s presence in the passenger car segment and captivate the imaginations of automotive enthusiasts.

Chrysler is setting the stage to become a technology leader within the Stellantis family, unveiling ambitious plans to introduce three innovative software platforms: STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit, and STLA AutoDrive. These platforms will enable up to Level 3 automated driving and are slated to debut on an upcoming crossover in 2025. Addressing concerns about increased costs associated with advanced technology integration, Chrysler is actively working on solutions.

CEO Chris Feuell disclosed the automaker’s commitment to developing technologies aligned with consumer needs. In collaboration with Stellantis’ financial services, Chrysler is exploring innovative approaches to make electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible and affordable by addressing monthly payments rather than solely focusing on the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). This customer-centric strategy aims to broaden the audience for EVs.

Despite limited recent marketing, the Chrysler 300 continues to maintain steady production, showcasing the enduring appeal of sedans. With the industry shift toward EVs, a future Chrysler sedan could emerge as a compelling and luxurious alternative to established automakers such as Tesla and BMW.
