Jeep Celebrates the Gladiator with a Launch Edition and Pre-Order Options
Jeep is ramping up the excitement as we near the release of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. The brand just announced a program that will delight devout Jeepers. On April 3rd, 2019, Jeep will open up an exclusive one-day pre-order period so that early enthusiasts (most likely already Jeep owners) can place an order for the highly-anticipated pickup. The following day, on April 4, Jeep will offer an exclusive Launch Edition of the Gladiator as well. When the latest generation Wrangler initially debuted enthusiasts felt as if they were scrambling to get behind the wheel of one, so the Jeep brand has opted for this pre-order method to avoid a repeat of the last fiasco. Experts consider this a smart move to reward faithful Jeepers who fill their driveway with older Jeep models, allowing them early access to the brand’s latest gem.
The Gladiator marks a new era for Jeep in the midsize pickup segment after a 27-year absence. Jeep will see itself propelled to join the same arena as the upcoming Ford Ranger and a few incumbents like the Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline. Jeep, a brand notoriously associated with adventure, hopes to continue its legacy with this new adventure-oriented vehicle. Just last summer, before gracing the eyes of the public at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the top-tier Gladiator Rubicon trim completed its navigation of the iconic – not to mention challenging – Rubicon Trail. Adventure is of the essence for Jeep.
Additionally, Jeep will be offering a special Launch Edition of the Gladiator for pre-order only on April 4 – a day the brand designated as 4×4 day a few years ago. The launch model is a fully loaded Gladiator Rubicon complete with Launch Edition badging, special interior trim, gloss black wheels, and 33-inch Falken all-terrain tires. There’ll be five color options for buyers to choose from, while the Gladiator Launch edition also comes standard with a removable hard top, a 285 horsepower V6 engine, and fender flares for an extra dash of style. Jeep will build 4,190 Gladiator Launch Edition units only. Why such a specific number you ask? It’s a nod to the 419 area code for Toledo, Ohio, where the truck is manufactured and assembled. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in May.
Jeep is attempting to maintain its momentum after a record-shattering 2018 that saw the brand sell nearly a million vehicles in the U.S. alone. The Gladiator marks the second major launch in two years, while the brand has 3 other vehicles – Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and an unnamed three-row SUV – waiting in the wings. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) will be counting on the Gladiator’s success so that Jeep can reign supreme in 2019 as well.
Jeep has much more than badges and equipment to entice Jeepers this time around, the automaker will also be hosting an exclusive “Find Your Freedom” contest for those who do purchase a Gladiator Launch Edition. The contest offers a $100,000 prize to cover the winner’s one-year salary so that they can pursue a year of adventure in their new truck. Participants will need to submit a video to a panel of judges.
