Exciting times are on the horizon for Jeep enthusiasts as the iconic American automaker takes a significant leap into the world of electrification. Through a tentative agreement between Stellantis and the United Auto Workers union, Jeep has unveiled its electrification plans for the next five years. The promise to electrify some of its most beloved models, including the Wrangler, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer, signifies a groundbreaking move that underscores Jeep’s dedication to sustainability and a greener future for off-road adventure enthusiasts.

Wrangler EV

First on the electrification agenda for Jeep is the iconic Wrangler. The current-generation JL Wrangler, already available as a hybrid, will continue production until 2028 at Jeep’s Toledo, Ohio factory. In 2025, both the hybrid and gas-powered-only versions of the Wrangler are slated for an update, showcasing Jeep’s commitment to enhancing its offerings in response to the evolving automotive landscape.

The next significant step in Jeep’s electrification journey is the introduction of the J70 Wrangler. This new iteration will feature two battery-based powertrains: one fully electric and another combining a combustion engine as a range extender. While specific details are yet to be revealed, Jeep plans to unveil the electrified Wrangler in 2027, with sales expected to commence a year later. This bold move underscores Jeep’s dedication to an all-electric future, aligning with broader industry trends.

Wagoneer & Grand Wagoneer Electrification

Jeep’s commitment to electrification extends beyond the Wrangler to its larger, more luxurious SUVs, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. These models are set to undergo a mid-cycle refresh in 2025, introducing a range-extended EV variant and underlining Jeep’s dedication to providing electrified options across its lineup.

Following the mid-cycle refresh, two years later, during the second refresh of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) lineup, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will also feature a full-battery electric trim. While specific details about these electrified variants are yet to be disclosed, the inclusion of electric powertrains signifies Jeep’s commitment to offering sustainable alternatives for its high-end SUVs.

Grand Cherokee EV

The beloved Grand Cherokee is gearing up for an electrified future, with the current-generation two-row SUV anticipated to retire in 2027. This departure paves the way for a new generation equipped with a range of battery and combustion powertrains, aligning with Jeep’s commitment to offering a diverse array of options to accommodate varied customer preferences. Additionally, the three-row variant of the Grand Cherokee (L) is set to continue production until 2028, potentially making room for an entirely new model. Jeep’s strategic electrification approach ensures that even its most cherished models seamlessly adapt to the dynamic shifts in the automotive landscape.
