The Jeep Cherokee is one of Jeep’s most established models. It also is available in a variety of trims and options so each buyer can customize their Jeep to their needs or budget.

There are a total of nine different trims and all but the Jeep Cherokee Overland come standard with a 187-horsepower 2.4-liter I4 MultiAir engine. MultiAir engines were designed to increase engine power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. There is the available option to change the engine however to a 2.4L I4 PZEV M-Air engine, a “partial zero emissions vehicle”, in case you’re going green.

The Jeep Cherokee trims also come with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Some of the higher end trims have the option to switch out for a 9-speed transmission with Jeep Active Drive II. This is a 4×4 system with low-range made for extra-low speeds and a neutral mode when flat towing behind a vehicle such as an RV.

The Jeep Cherokee’s standard engine has an average fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg when on the highway, which is above average for an SUV.

The seating capacity of a Jeep Cherokee is five passengers, and a 60/40 split rear folding seat comes standard. Eight cargo tie down loops also come standard, along with rear seat heat ducts and electronic vehicle information center. For a little luxury, the steering wheel is wrapped in leather in all trims except for the base Cherokee.

Other standard features across Jeep Cherokee trims are the overhead console, a rear view mirror with microphone for controlling the hands-free phone system, and variable intermittent windshield wipers.

All of the Cherokee trims ride on different rims and have different tires, but they all come with a compact spare tire. All trims have LED daytime running headlamps, LED tail lamps, a rear window wiper/washer, and a Jeep cargo management system with utility hooks and a bag kit on the roof.

Safety and Security

Most if not all safety features are shared across the Jeep Cherokee trims. This includes: advanced multistage airbags, driver inflatable airbag knee-bolster airbag, supplemental front and rear side bags, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, LATCH ready child seat anchors, keyless entry with panic alarm, and an enhanced accident system.

The warranty is the same across all Jeep Cherokee trims – 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty, 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for 5 years or 100,000 miles.
