The New Wrangler 4xe Joins the Jeep Lineup

September 11th, 2020 by

It’s finally here, Jeep not only introduced its all-new Wrangler 4xe model, the automaker also redefined what the American icon and its capabilities mean going forward. The arrival of the Wrangler 4xe means the arrival of the most technologically advanced, capable and eco-friendly Jeep Wrangler. The brand plans to have the Wrangler 4xe available by early 2021 in the United States, Europe, and China. Previous electrified models in the brand’s lineup, including the Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe that debuted last year at the Geneva Motor Show, began rolling out across Europe this summer (2020). It was, however, the Jeep Grand Commander PHEV that kicked off Jeep’s 4xe lineup when it was introduced to the Chinese market in 2019.

Capable of traversing up to 25 all-electric miles in near silence, with its zero emissions and electric-only propulsion, the Wrangler 4xe is a perfect commuter. Bringing the best of both worlds without range anxiety, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is among one of the first eco-friendly off-road vehicles that can evoke that open-air freedom like only Jeep can. The automaker is planning to offer electrification options for every name plate within the next few years. Jeep’s goal is to become a leader in eco-friendly premium technology, from the materials sourced to improving overall fuel efficiency and electrification solutions.

“Our Jeep 4xe vehicles will be the most efficient, responsible and capable that the brand has ever created. We are committed to make Jeep the greenest SUV brand. The electrification of the Jeep lineup will allow commuters to travel solely on electric power, delivering an efficient and fun on-road experience and offering an ability to enjoy even more Jeep capability off-road in nearly complete silence,” said Christian Meubier, Global President of Jeep Brand — FCA.

The Wrangler 4xe’s powertrain delivers a unique experience both on- and off-road thanks to its combination of electric motors, a high-tech 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, a robust automatic eight speed transmission, and high-voltage battery pack. This marks the most advanced powertrain ever developed for a Jeep vehicle, as it maximizes efficiency and offers an estimated 50 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), all while delivering enough pure-electric operation for standard daily commutes.

Jeep continues to demonstrate leadership throughout its nearly 80 year history. Jeep vehicles were the first to offer buyers an automatic full-time four-wheel-drive system, the first to feature a front sway-bar disconnect system, and the first to be equipped with a 4:1 transfer case. It makes perfect sense for the brand to merge electrified products into its lineup and aim to become the greenest provider of iconic off-road vehicles. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe will launch globally at the end of 2020, with different electric vehicle charge ports depending on the region. The model is assembled at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA’s) Toledo Assembly Complex in Toledo, Ohio.
