What’s New on the 2023 Jeep Wrangler

The most capable and widely recognized vehicle across the globe, the Jeep Wrangler, comes back for the 2023 model year with even more unmatched 4×4 capability with over 80 years of engineering under the hood. These days, Jeep is taking things even further with the introduction of new powertrains, including the plug-in hybrid 4xe and the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that’s powering the Rubicon 392 model. Additional powertrains on the Jeep lineup include: a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, and a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine as well.
For 2023, the Wrangler retains its classic body-on-frame design, solid axles, and a front/rear five-link suspension system. It remains one of the few SUVs on the market to offer a six-speed manual transmission in addition to its standard eight-speed automatic. Technology features are also showcased on the 2023 Wrangler, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control and more, furthering the model’s overall appeal.
New for 2023
Jeep recently introduced its Freedom Edition Package for both the Gladiator and the Wrangler. It’s available for a limited time and comes with enhanced features such as military-themed interior and exterior design cues, Oscar Mike badges on the rear swing gate, a steel front bumper, rock rails, and an American flag decal. On the Rubicon trim, buyers can now enjoy standard 17-inch wheels with optional designs to add even more flair to their Wrangler. Jeep also updated the exterior shades for 2023, replacing the old Snazzberry shade with a new one called Earl, and adding a limited edition Reign shade.
Horsepower Highlights:
Buyers who opt for a Jeep Wrangler powered by the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 can expect 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, as well as Engine Stop-Start technology, and a six-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the very same Pentastar engine is available with a different configuration which includes an eight-speed automatic transmission and mild-hybrid eTorque technology to help with fuel costs. The optional 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine Jeep offers delivers 270 horsepower and up to 295 lb-ft of torque–this engine is standard beneath the hood of the Sahara trim, and optional on the Sport and Rubicon.
Probably the most innovative of the bunch is the plug-in hybrid powertrain that drives the Wrangler 4xe. With its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, accompanied by two electric motors and a 400-volt battery pack, the Wrangler 4xe delivers 21 miles of all-electric range and 49 MPGe. Performance is key on the Wrangler Rubicon 392 as it’s powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 that’s rated at 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
