Why the Jeep Grand Cherokee Offers the Best of Both Worlds
As the original SUV that came to define the modern era, the Jeep Grand Cherokee often shared the spotlight with its direct competition, the Ford Explorer. These days, the Grand Cherokee continues to break new ground with its 4xe trim, adding an electric motor and battery to the famed SUV’s powertrain.
Jeep is consistently adding electrified models to its lineup, which now includes the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe. The brand’s latest 4xe powertrain which rests under the hood of the Grand Cherokee is good for 25 miles of all-electric range and offers buyers 56 miles per gallon equivalent when the hybrid system is engaged. Jeep currently offers electrification on all of its Grand Cherokee trims, from entry-level to the top-tier Summit Reserve. All 4xe-powered Grand Cherokee vehicles take on average about two hours to recharge on a 220-volt outlet.
New across the board for all of 2022, the Grand Cherokee comes with a light exterior redesign that takes inspiration directly from the Jeep Wagoneer. Buyers can expect a lowered and tapered roof that improves aerodynamics. New grille shutters, as well as a new hood shape, and front wheel spats round out the model’s newly-minted aero dynamism. Jeep also spaced the wheels farther apart for the first time, improving the Grand Cherokee’s overall handling. Additionally, Jeep also made a Gloss Black roof available on the Overland trim, and standard on the Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve trims.
On the inside, the cabin of the Grand Cherokee goes above and beyond, now featuring slim air vents and brand new seats that can be adjusted for under-knee support. Wood trim and Diamond-accent stitching can be found throughout the cabin, while the hood itself is taller than the previous generation. Directly in front of the vehicle Jeep added a forward-facing camera for optimal technology. Buyers can also expect two 10.1-inch touchscreen displays—one is a digital gauge cluster and the other functions as the infotainment display. The Grand Cherokee can even be optioned with an additional passenger screen with Amazon Alexa and Amazon Fire Stick capabilities. The built in Fire TV allows passengers to pick up their series right where they left off.
