Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon Named “2019 SUV of the Year”

February 5th, 2019 by

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been named Four Wheeler “2019 SUV of the Year” and with its many features, it’s easy to see why it was named SUV of the year. The award is given annually by the editors of the opinion-leading off-road enthusiast publication. The Wrangler also won MotorTrend SUV of the year.

All current Wrangler trims on the market are Trail Rated.  The trail-rated badge indicates that the vehicle is designed to perform on a variety of challenging off-road conditions identified by five key consumer-oriented performance categories: traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and water fording.

The 2019 Jeep Wrangler is the most capable SUV ever and it represents Jeep’s Legendary 4×4 capability while staying true to the original design and providing a fresh, modern take on a well-known profile. It has multiple powertrain combinations, including an all-new turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with e-Torque technology that features a mild-hybrid system. It is the most powerful and fuel-efficient Wrangler, with vastly improved on-road manners, for everyday driving.

The Rubicon also has the Uconnect infotainment system, which can be optioned with a 7.0- or 8.4-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, is intuitive to use. “Its controls can be learned in seconds, and it responds quickly to your inputs,” associate online editor and resident tech Stefan Ogbac as stated on

The tests, conducted by a variety of FOUR WHEELER’s judges in a course of a week, span more than 1,000 miles of terrain that included pavement, gravel, dirt, sand, rocks, mud and snow at elevations ranging from sea level to more than 9,000 feet. There is also an off-road portion of testing, where judges evaluated visibility from the driver’s seat, four-wheel-drive system selection and performance, tire performance and durability, engine power and cooling, transmission function and cooling, suspension tuning and performance and traction control system function.

The judges spent some time on the road evaluating driving characteristics, such as handling, ride quality, interior comfort and steering feel. Other factors also taken into consideration are price, fuel efficiency, tire size and ramp travel index (RTI), which tests suspension articulation.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon won-out.

“The Wrangler Rubicon is packed full of innovation and technology, fully modernizing the Jeep experience, yet capability, comfort, and user-friendliness have only been improved upon,” said Sean Holman, Group Content Director for FOUR WHEELER. “It is a truly modern interpretation of the Wrangler without any dilution to the formula of what a jeep should be.”

The 2019 Wrangler has available Advanced Safety Group which includes the most advanced active safety system. Included you’ll find a Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with an automatic transmission and Enhanced Adaptive Cruise Control with a six-speed manual transmission.

It also has ParkSense Rear Park Assist System (to detect obstacles behind you), the standard ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera (which brings hidden rear objects to your attention while you shift into reverse), available Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection (which relies on radar-based sensors to detect other vehicles).

Along with a 2019 Jeep Wrangler, you will have properly inflated tires and Tire Pressure Monitoring System which will alert you if pressure is incorrect. In case of an emergency, if you experience a flat tire, the Wrangler has a full-size spare.

As for the safety of passengers, the Wrangler has preventative engineering with advanced front and side airbag system and high-strength steel beams that improve side-impact performance and vehicle stiffness.

With over 76-years in the market, Jeep has become a household brand name that everyone recognizes. Jeep is the authentic SUV with class-leading capability, craftsmanship, and versatility for people who seek remarkable journeys. It also offers a full line of vehicles that continue to provide owners with a sense of security to handle anything that comes its way.

All-new Jeep Wranglers have an MSRP starting of $27,945 (plus destination fee).
