Jeep Reaches New Heights With the Wrangler 4xe at the Rebelle Rally
Another day, another accolade for the freshly-minted Jeep Wrangler 4xe. This time around, the new plug-in hybrid model pushed the boundaries of electric off-roading at the sixth Rebelle Rally. 2021 marks the first time an electrified vehicle wins the 1,500-mile trek across the California and Nevada deserts. Not only did the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe place first, Jeep also swept the podium, securing the top-three positions, and also taking up five of the top ten spots.
“The Jeep brand continues to dominate for a reason. Off the showroom floor, a Jeep 4×4 is an exceptionally capable vehicle to take on the Rebelle Rally. The Wrangler 4xe definitely proved itself in an impressive way, taking the top two positions in the overall competition,” said Emily Miller, founder — Rebelle Rally.
Team 4xEventure, with Nena Barlow and Teralin Petereit on board their Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe took the overall win in this year’s Rebelle Rally. Additionally, the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe was also deemed the top-scoring electric vehicle. Barlow and Petereit were focused, dominating four of the seven stages, and never placing lower than third. As of this latest Rebelle Rally, Petereit is the most successful competitor in the event’s history as this was her third overall win.
“The course was more challenging than ever this year, but the Wrangler 4xe made it easy. We torqued up dunes and rock-crawled mountains and washes with ease and efficiency. Not to mention, we never lacked for range or power,” said Nena Barlow from Team 4xEventure.
Jeep continues to work its way toward its goal of zero-emission freedom, with events like the Rebelle Rally working to showcase not only the vehicle’s 4×4 capability but its exclusive off-road 4xe powertrain. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe offers buyers 49 MPGe and 21 miles of all-electric range, with access to trailhead charging free of charge. Combining two electric motors with a 2.0-liter I-4 engine and an eight-speed transmission, the Wrangler 4xe’s propulsion system makes for enhanced 4×4 off-road capability, without range anxiety. Just like the original Wrangler, the 4xe variant comes with solid front and rear axles, a fully articulating suspension, a full-time two-speed transfer case, and up to 30 inches of water fording capability.
“The Jeep brand has supported the Rebelle Rally since the beginning six years ago and, this year, we were excited to showcase the new Wrangler 4xe in the most difficult off-road rally conditions. It’s a testament to our teams in the race and our engineering teams at home that this year Jeep Wrangler swept the podium, with two teams at home that this year Jeep Wrangler swept the podium, with two Wrangler 4xe SUVs placing first and second overall, as well taking the Bone Stock and electrified awards without a single issue the entire Rally. Congratulations to everyone who rallied this year,” said Jim Morrison, Vice President, Jeep Brand North America.
